Hisarönu Körfezi

Hisarönu Körfezi means the Gulf of Fortress, referring to the many ancient and medieval forts dotting the hilltops about the gulf. This long, thin gulf runs in an east-west direction, bordered by the high, craggy mountains of the Dorian promontory on the north, and by the Greek Island of Simi and Yesilova Körfezi on the south. The western end of the Dorian promontory is mostly bare rock covered in low maquis, with some cultivation in the valleys, but at the head of the gulf there are extensive pine forests down to the water's edge. Datça is the only town of any size in the gulf, and you should stock up on provision here if dallying.
