Karaada is the large island lying in the south-east approaches to Boldrum, called also the "Black Island". On the north coast, the white buildings of the old hydropathic institute are conspicuous. Local boats run tourists across for the hot mineral springs ashore. These are said to be beneficial to those suffering from rheumatism and arthritis.
The mud here is also said to be good for the skin and you will often see people caked in mud wandering around the shore. On the south side, there are two bays that can be used, Middle Bay, and the End Bay.
